The Greatest Joy

“When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.” Matthew 2:10

The Word of God tells us that the wise men were filled with joy when they finally reached their destination. The journey had been long and difficult. Led only by a star and their faith in the prophecies of God, they had determined they would not quit until they could worship the promised King.

To say they were joyful is putting in mildly. In fact, you can’t even put into the English language the joy Matthew 2:10 communicates in the Greek language. The literal Greek translation is, “They were overjoyed to the max with great abundant joy.” In other words, they were dancing in the street. They were doing cartwheels. It was the happiest moment of their lives. They had found the King!

The greatest joy in all of our lives is in finding, following, and fulfilling the will of God. The greatest joy of doing that is when the will of God leads you to Jesus. These men found Jesus because they were looking for Jesus…and God used a star to make sure that they did find Him.

There is one thing I know for sure. Anyone who is looking for Jesus will find Jesus, because Jesus is looking for everyone who is looking for Him. Hebrews 11:5 says, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.” Jesus is not only our Savior, He is also our reward.

Christmas reminds us that we are to always follow the will of God for our lives if we want to experience the greatest joy in life – finding and worshiping Jesus. The Word of God will always lead you to the will of God; and the will of God will always lead you to Jesus.
